Sayulita Was Designated as a Pueblo Magico in 2015

Surfers and vacationers love visiting Sayulita due to the vibrant colors and chill vibe that the town exudes. In September 2015, Sayulita was designated as a Pueblo Magico during the Segunda Feria Nacional de Pueblos Mágicos held in Puebla. A couple other towns were also awarded the Pueblo Magico designation, which included Talpa de Allende and Mascota. Pueblo Magico in English means “Magic Towns”, and back in 2001 the Mexico Tourism Board started designating villages, towns, and cities throughout Mexico. Three requirements must be met to receive this honorable name, which is that the architectural style of the town’s buildings should be pleasing visually. For example, rooftops, balconies, and facades should be painted the same exact color, and there are 7 colors that have been approved by the National Institute of Anthropology and History. The second requirement is that the town or village should have their own cultural identity. Lastly, the town or village must have a village square that is attractive as well as one major attraction to promote tourism to the town or village.

Favorite Beaches in Sayulita

If you take a day trip to Sayulita, you should take a peaceful stroll along the beautiful beaches in town as you take in all the fantastic sights, scents, and sounds that surround you. Some of the best surf breaks in the Banderas Bay area can be found at Sayulita beaches. If you want to surf, then you can rent a surfboard on the beach for a small price. However, if you prefer not to go surfing, then you can try paddle boarding which are also for rent right on the beach. There are a variety of casual restaurants on the beach, so you can relax, dine, and drink a delicious cocktail. The main Sayulita Beach gets very crowded, but it’s wonderful for those who like to watch people passing by, and the vendors selling their handmade goods. If you prefer a beach that is less crowded, then you should go to the Los Muertos Beach. This is a secluded beach that you can get to by walking past the Villa Amor hotel, then you will walk up a hill and pass a cemetery on the way to the private beach. There are no restaurants there, so you may want to bring snacks and an umbrella to block the sun.

There are numerous amazing art galleries and restaurants in Sayulita. There is a gazebo in the colorful main plaza which is a favorite spot to take photos. The art galleries in the town have original pieces that are made by the locals. You will have plenty of things to choose from to find that perfect souvenir or gift for a loved one back home. When you are ready to eat, you can choose from pizza, tacos, or a gourmet lunch or dinner. The local cuisine in Sayulita is absolutely delicious.
