Tips for Packing and Moving

Moving home is a job that is tedious and exhausting, especially if you aren’t purchasing a home and you are a renter always looking for a better deal. It can be stressful and often frustrating. If you are in the process of relocating, then this can be a huge task, because so many people don’t plan it out and prepare for the move. What do many people do wrong when moving day arrives? If you are getting ready to move, then you will appreciate the tips that are provided below:

  1. Get organized and start early
  2. If you are going to be moving, then you should start preparing several weeks in advance. You should start the packing process as early as you can. If you do this, then you won’t be hurrying the last minute. You can start packing items that you don’t use daily, such as documents, papers, sports equipment, and even extra towels and bedding. This also gives you chance to sort through your junk and things you could throw away or donate. See point No.4

  3. Think strategically and label boxes
  4. One of the biggest mistakes movers make that might not seem too important, but you will thank yourself later if you do it right is packing boxes effectively. As the arrival of the moving truck approaches, many movers start throwing items into any boxes. There is a big difference in packing your boxes properly and just throwing items into a box messy. You should always time the time to pack your boxes properly. You might not know it, but if you pack your boxes properly, then you use less boxes, which means you won’t have to have a bigger truck and less workers. Labeling your boxes will also help you when it comes to unpacking at the other end and make settling in to your new home less stressful.

  5. Keep your essentials in a separate box
  6. Take all the items that you use every day and keep these item separated. This could include your phone and charger, clothes, medicine, shampoo and toiletries, and blankets and put them in a box and mark them, so when you arrive at your new place you will be able to locate it with ease.

  7. Sort through your junk
  8. Junk is something that is generally overlooked when moving. Ask yourself, do you really need to take all the junk that you have collected over the years? The first rule is; when in doubt, then throw it out. This is a good rule to keep in mind when you are packing, and it will be less items to put on the moving truck. Another thing to remember before you throw anything away is could someone benefit from the items you are throwing away such as a charity or thrift store? If so, then drop of the items at your local charity.

When you are packing and you notice you have a lot of things that you really don’t want anymore, then you can earn some extra money by having a yard sale. If you use Facebook, then you can sell your items on there or you can even sell it on Gumtree. Think about all the people that are wanting to purchase the items that you don’t want anymore. Remember the old saying, ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’.

  9. Consider getting a professional
  10. There is no shame in admitting that you don’t have time to pack, and if you have the money to pay someone to do the job, then why not? Getting a professional to pack your home up is a great option for those who cannot dedicate the time to this task. Packing services know how to best store you things and organize your home with labels and efficiency. It can take off one stressful item on your to-do list, that is for sure.
